Man arrested after standoff with police on Loop 202

MESA, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Loop 202 Red Mountain was closed in both directions at Broadway Road due to a police standoff that began with a pursuit in the area on Tuesday.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis says the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Juan Luis Beltran, assaulted an officer on the Loop 202 in Mesa.

Beltran was taken into custody just before 3:30 p.m.

At 3:49 p.m., Arizona Department of Transportation officials stated, "Both directions of Loop 202 Red Mountain have reopened following a police incident."

Lewis says there were no injuries to officers and this was not an officer-involved shooting situation.
