Man dead in officer-involved shooting in Surprise

SURPRISE - A man is dead and an officer injured after an officer-involved shooting in Surprise on Saturday morning.

Surprise Police say officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near 177th Avenue and Voltaire. When an officer spoke with the driver, an argument developed and the officer discharged a service weapon at least once.

The driver drove for a short distance and that crashed into a parked vehicle. Officers then began life-saving procedures to try to save the driver's life.

The officer was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries, and has since been released from the hospital.
