Mesa Police: Officers OK but suspect at hospital after shooting

Mesa Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on Saturday morning.

According to Mesa Police spokesperson Steve Berry, no officers were injured in the officer-involved shooting, which occurred in the area of University and Mesa Drive on Saturday.

Police say the suspect was driving a vehicle with an expired license plate, and was followed by the police helicopter after driving away from officers. Police followed him into the apartment complex, and say the suspect turned and fired at officers, who returned fire.

The suspect was injured in the officer-involved shooting, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Streets in the area remain closed while police investigate.
