A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for defrauding the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) out of approximately $241,260 in benefits.

Dig deeper:

The Department of Justice (DOJ) says Victor Milbourne, 52, of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, claimed he was severely disabled and unable to work due to service-connected injuries but an investigation by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General and FBI Philadelphia’s Fort Washington Resident Agency determined he was defrauding the VA.

The backstory:

The DOJ says their investigation revealed that Milbourne led a very active lifestyle, including traveling internationally, running his own business, doing intensive physical workouts multiple times a week, and using disability payments he received from the VA to support his preferred lifestyle, including frequent dinners out and luxury vacations.

Milbourne was charged by indictment in August 2022 and pleaded guilty in September of last year to 10 counts of theft of government funds.

In addition to the 18-month prison sentence, Milbourne also was sentenced to three years of supervised release, ordered to pay $241,690 in restitution, a $20,000 fine, and a $1,000 special assessment.
