Phoenix police identify home invasion suspect shot by officer in apartment

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police have identified a burglary suspect who reportedly reached for his gun before being fatally shot by a police officer during an encounter in an apartment where the man was hiding.

Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said 46-year-old Edwin C. Bundy was found hiding behind a shower curtain Friday after police arrived in response to a 911 call about a man entering the apartment where the woman's 15-year-old daughter was found alone.

According to Fortune, the daughter hid and was able to leave the apartment unharmed when police arrived and her mother then arrived home and entered the apartment to do a walk-through with police who were unaware that the suspect was still inside.

Fortune said Bundy ignored commands from an officer and was shot when he reached for his gun.
