Police: 18-year-old woman killed in north Phoenix crash

Police say an 18-year-old woman was killed in a north Phoenix crash early Tuesday morning near 67th Avenue and Pyramid Peak Parkway when a 17-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole.

Arianna Hinostosa, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. Sgt. Vince Lewis says Hinostosa was not wearing a seat belt.

The 17-year-old male driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive. His name has not been released.

Police say impairment does not appear to have been a factor, but speed may have played a role in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing by police.
