Man dies after shooting at north Phoenix boys group home; teenager arrested

Police say a teenager has been arrested in connection to a shooting at a north Phoenix group home that left a young man dead.

Phoenix Police say the shooting happened just before 2 a.m. on Sept. 1 near 19th Avenue and Mountain View Road. Officers arrived at the scene and found 18-year-old T'revonsay Sales, who had been shot. Sales, a resident of the group home, was taken to a hospital where he later died.

After speaking to witnesses, police said they found and arrested the suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile boy. He was booked into the Maricopa County juvenile court. Police said he is also a resident of the group home, which houses young men ages 16 to 20.

The motive for the shooting is known at this time.

"We’ve got gunshots all the time, mostly from over there. It’s not the first time, not the second time, and it won’t be the last, I can guarantee to you," said Jasmin Garcia, who lives in the area.
