President Trump claims his budget includes plan for nationwide paid family leave

WASHINGTON (FOX 10) -- In the second State of the Union speech of his presidency, President Donald Trump claims his budget will include a plan for nationwide paid family leave.

President Trump did not provide much details on what the plan would entail, turning to the topic of abortion quickly after making the claim, but he did say the plan will allow every new parent a "chance to bond with their newborn child".

According to a report by the Urban Institute in May 2017, only one in seven U.S. civilian workers have access to paid family leave as an employee benefit, based on 2016 data, and some parental leave is offered by public sector or private sector employers, as part of an employee benefits package.

According to an Associated Press article in 2016, an AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll shows 72% of those surveyed support paid family leave, with strong Republican report.
