Pursuit ends with deadly officer-involved shooting in central Phoenix
PHOENIX - Phoenix Police have identified the suspect killed in Saturday morning's officer-involved shooting as 39-year-old Andre Lavance Rippy.
Police say Rippy died after he led DPS and Phoenix Police on a pursuit that turned into an officer-involved shooting on Saturday morning.
The incident began with two separate calls for shots fired at about 2:00 a.m. in the area of 29th Avenue and Bethany Home, and 27th Avenue and Highland.
In both calls, Rippy was described as driving a black Mustang.
At 3:00 a.m., officers located the Mustang and attempted to stop the driver. Rippy did not stop and a pursuit ensued toward south and east through the Valley.
Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers followed Rippy on the Loop 101.
Rippy got off the freeway near the Loop 101 and Loop 202 interchange after DPS successfully deployed stop-sticks.
Officers were involved in a foot pursuit after Rippy bailed out of the vehicle near 14th Avenue and Thomas.
After running behind a local business, Rippy turned and poointed a weapon at the officers. The officers then returned fire.
Rippy was pronounced dead on scene.
There were no injuries to officers.
