Recall for 20K pounds of frozen beef patties shipped to schools nationwide, may contain plastic

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - More than 10 tons of frozen beef that was shipped to schools nationwide has been recalled due to the possibility of it containing purple plastic, according to officials.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says AdvancePierre Foods recalled more than 20,300 of its ready-to-eat beef patties because it may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically soft purple plastic.

The frozen beef patties were produced on Nov. 30, 2018, according to the company based in Enid, Oklahoma.

The following products are subject to recall:

- 14.06-lb. cases containing three bags with 30 pieces for a total of 90 portions of "CN FULLY COOKED FLAMEBROILED BEEF PATTIES CARAMEL COLOR ADDED" with case code 155-525-0 and package code 8334.

The USDA says the frozen beef patties were shipped to food service locations nationwide, including schools. The USDA says the frozen beef patties were not part of the food provided by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program.

AdvancePierre Foods said it discovered the product on Monday after it received two complaints.
There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to the consumption of the product, according to officials.

The USDA said any food service locations that have purchased the products should not serve or consume them. The USDA said the products should be thrown away or returned to the place they were purchased.
