Repairs of Phoenix freeway tunnel to begin this summer
PHOENIX (AP) - A freeway tunnel in the center of downtown Phoenix will finally undergo much needed repairs next month.
KTAR-FM reports the Arizona Department of Transportation plans to start major renovations of the Interstate 10 Deck Park Tunnel on June 1.
ADOT officials say water has been draining improperly from Margaret T. Hance Park, which is located above the tunnel.
ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel says water at times has leaked into vehicles traveling through the tunnel.
Nintzel says it will take about two months for crews to dig trenches and redirecting pipelines.
This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the tunnel's construction.
It opened Aug. 10, 1990.
