Sheriff Arpaio hoping lawsuit will be put on hold

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is asking an appeals court to put a racial profiling lawsuit against him on hold, while he tries to get a judge off the case.

The sheriff is hoping that a lower-court judge will be disqualified from the case and if his request is granted, it would likely lead to a postponement of contempt-of-court hearings that are scheduled for September.

Arpaio has acknowledged that he violated the judge's orders in the case.
