Silent Witness to help fight back against theft of holiday decorations

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Christmas is together time, and around the Valley and state, many folks turn their yards into beautiful winter wonderlands.

The last thing anybody wants is for thieves to steal holiday decorations, but now, there's a way to fight back.

"We live for Christmas," said John Hack of Laveen. "We live for it. This is what we do. We believe in the season and it is all for the kids."

Hack's yard is filled with inflatable wonders, but there's the constant threat somebody might try to make off with something.

"It is a shame people do that," said Hack. "Folks like us, if you need it, we are more than likely to just give it to you."

It's not just here, but everywhere somebody tries to bring a little cheer. Some of the ornaments used in decorations are really expensive. For example, an inflatable decoration could run a couple of hundred dollars. Some have taken the precaution of putting it up on the roof

Police, however, are fighting back. During the holiday season, Silent Witness will pay a cash reward for information leading to an arrest, in cases of stolen holiday gifts and decorations.

"You know, for somebody to take something when we are trying to build up the Christmas spirit and destroy it, I think that is horrible," said Byron McClinton of Laveen.
