Suspect in custody after fatal shooting outside grocery store

A suspect is in custody following a late-night shooting outside a Phoenix grocery store.

Phoenix police tell Fox 10 that a 26-year-old man is in custody after a 40-year-old man was shot and killed outside a Food City grocery store near Seventh Avenue and Southern just after 10 p.m. on Thursday night.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Witnesses at the scene told police they saw a brown SUV involved in the shooting and the vehicle was found several miles away.

The driver of the SUV was taken into police custody.

The cause of the shooting remains under investigation.
