Triplets wrestle for Corona De Sol HS
TEMPE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - The chances of having triplets is about 1 in 6,400, but one set of triplets here in the valley have the same interest and are taking their skill to another level. They're the Farina brothers who are Seniors at Corona Del Sol High School.
"Just take some air out of him, make it hard for him to breathe." These words of encouragement have the potential to shock most parents, but not these.
"It's actually been a very good thing not to bring it home from the mat," said Lou Farina.
Because if you multiply this power by three and you get the Farina brothers, CDS seniors who have become the first triplets to wrestle their way to state.
"I've been wrestling since 5th grade, and he's been wrestling since 6th grade, and I've been wrestling since like 3rd of 4th grade," said Ryan Farina.
Ryan, Anthony, and Marc may be related, but they all love to wrestle. Their coach says that may be where the similarities come to an end.
"Marc is more the bullish of the three, with Ryan he's more of a thinker, and then Anthony he's actually one of the more cohesive of the family members. So between the three of them they make a great set to have on my team," said Jim Martinez.
The love for the sport is possibly in their DNA, their older brother also wrestled for Corona, and so did their dad.
"These guys were a lot better than I was," said Lou Farina.
The parents are so proud along with their coach.
"They told me when they first entered our program, they wanted to be state champions," said Martinez.
This weekend they will get their chance.
