Tucson man fatally shoots neighbor during fight in garage

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say a man fatally shot his neighbor in self-defense after an argument turned physical.

Police Sgt. Pete Dugan says the incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday inside the man's garage.

According to Dugan, the man and 25-year-old Denario Thompson got into a verbal altercation.

Police say when it became physical, Thompson allegedly pulled out a handgun. The homeowner then pulled out a handgun as well.

The two exchanged gunfire and police say Thompson ended up being struck multiple times.

The homeowner was not injured.

Firefighters transported Thompson to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Dugan says the initial investigation indicates the homeowner was acting in self-defense.

He did not say what started the fight.

The Pima County Attorney's Office will review the case.
