Valley nurse climbs to top of Mount Kilimanjaro

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - A 73-year-old pediatric nurse is finding ways to reach new heights - she's climbed the tallest mountain in Africa.

Betty Schley decided to take the 68-mile hike on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania as a trip for her birthday. The journey took eight days and the hikers accompanying her helped her celebrate her birthday along the way.

This isn't Schley's first adventure. She's gone ice diving in Canada, scuba diving in Thailand, and has visited all seven continents. That's pretty remarkable.

FOX 10's Ty Brennan has the story.
