Woman killed in SR 169 crash

A woman driving a Toyota Tacoma was killed when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a van head-on.

Troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety say the crash happened at about 8;15am on State Route 169. A trooper witnessed the crash while helping a driver change a tire. The trooper says the Tacoma crossed the center line and crashed into a Ford van that was heading north on the highway. After crashing into the van, the Toyota spun across the road, slamming into the trooper's empty vehicle.

The woman behind the wheel was pronounced dead on the scene. The van driver was flown to a Phoenix hospital for critical injuries, but troopers say he is expected to survive.

SR 169 remains shut down while troopers investigate. The name of the driver killed has not been released.
