Lakeview hospital experiences baby boom 9 months after Cubs' World Series win

A baby boom is underway at a hospital in Lakeview, and it shows just how much Chicago celebrated the Cubs' World Series win.

9 months ago today, the Cubs won the World Series and now, future Cubs fans are entering the world.

On Wednesday, Cubs mascot Clark was on hand at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to greet some of the newborns.

Just a day old and Rose Grooms already has a favorite team. She and all the babies born recently at Illinois Masonic Medical Center were decked out in Cubs gear on Wednesday, courtesy of the team, that played a major role in their arrival.

"A lot of parents will say well we know what we were going about 9 months back because the whole city of Chicago was...it was hard not to root for the cubs," said Melissa Dennis, OB-GYN.

Doctor Melissa Dennis noticed an uptick in births recently, and then did the math.

9 months ago when the city was celebrating a Cubs victory, many couples celebrated as well.

"You know...you never can tell...there was something in the air in the city, so incredible it probably helped a little bit," said mother Jenna Grooms.

While some of the babies were surprises, others had been waited on and hoped for - just like the Cubs victory.

"We had been trying to have a baby and ... maybe there was some extra luck the night the Cubs won in the World Series. And just the right amount of champagne," said Erin and Dave Hettinger.

Erin and Dave Hettinger from Barrington are huge Cubs fans. They even named their son Theo after Theo Epstein.

"Everything the Cubs represent...and Theo is great role model...as a new dad...they're the types of people you want your son to look up to," Dave said.
