Cedar Fire is 60% contained, US 60 back open

The US 60 is back open between Show Low and State Route 73 on Saturday as crews make progress battling the Cedar Fire. The wildfire has grown to 45,977 acres and is now 60 percent contained.

Fire officials with the U.S. Forest Service say extreme heat and low humidity in Arizona contributed to the growth of the fire over the past week.

Pre-evacuation notices have been lifted for several communities including Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside

Over 900 firefighters are fighting the wildfire. BAER (Burned Area Emergency Response) teams are now evaluating the impact of the wildfire on the drainage areas for the region.

The Cedar Fire began on June 15 and the cause remains under investigation.
