4 seriously injured in wrong-way crash along I-17 north of Phoenix

Authorities say four people were seriously injured in a wrong-way crash along Interstate 17 north of Phoenix.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the wrong-way crash happened along southbound I-17 at the Sunset Point Rest Area near Black Canyon City.

DPS says four people have been hospitalized with serious injuries following the head-on crash. Three people were traveling in the victim vehicle and the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was the sole occupant.

DPS says they received an initial report of a wrong-way vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-17 at 2:39 a.m.

Motorists removed the four injured people from their vehicles, which were both fully engulfed in flames.

Southbound I-17 was reopened at the Sunset Point Rest Area at 6:30 a.m.
