Cottonwood Police looking for man accused of stabbing 53-year-old man

Police in Cottonwood are looking for a man accused of stabbing a 53-year-old man.

According to police, Benjamin Pita, 23, is accused of stabbing a 53-year-olf victim numerous times in the face, neck, arm, and chest.

The incident, according to a Cottonwood Police statement released on Saturday, happened on Friday. Police responded to the area of the Country Store on Western Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m., for a report of a stabbing victim. The stabbing itself reportedly took place in the area of State Route 260 and Thousand Trails.

According to police, Pita was a passenger in the car driven by the victim, and after the alleged stabbing, Pita jumped out of the car in the area of Thousand Trails, and fled on foot. Another passenger, according to police, moved the man into the passenger seat, the drove to the Country Store, where 911 was called.

The victim, according to police, was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center, and is listed in serious condition.

All three people inside the car, according to police, know each other.

Pita is described as a 23-year-old Native American man, 6' tall, weighing 165 lbs, with black hair, brown eyes, and numerous tattoos. Pita was last seen wearing a black and yellow t-shirt, and is on Supervised Federal Parole.
