Creepy copycat clowns popping up
LOS ANGELES, CA - You've probably heard about the clown supposedly terrorizing residents of Greenville, South Carolina. It was reported that in late August, he was trying to lure children at an apartment complex into the woods. Is it a new urban legend, a movie PR stunt, or is there a real weirdo slicking on the grease paint? Whatever the case, more and more copycats are popping up.
The latest sighting was in Greensboro, North Carolina where this time a citizen with a machete did the "chasing into the woods" once the clown in a scary mask was spotted.
In the half a dozen cases, none of the reports of the clowns have been verified by the police, but they've still been a drain on resources.
At a news conference Greenville Police announced that any clowns caught terrorizing residents would face arrest. The police chief said, "It's illegal. It's dangerous. It's inappropriate, and it's creating community concern, so it needs to stop."
Also upset by the sightings? Actual professional clowns in the area who perform at children's parties and nursing homes. The gigs have all dried up and until this is over, they're the ones who are afraid to go outside. Scary.
