DPS investigating deadly crash involving pedestrian on US 60

Authorities are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian that closed US 60 in Mesa for several hours on Tuesday morning.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a fatal crash between a car and pedestrian under the Val Vista overpass shut down the westbound lanes of US 60 for several hours on Tuesday.

DPS says troopers received calls of a body in the roadway just after 3 a.m., and once they arrived at the scene, troopers found the body of a man in the middle lane of traffic under the Val Vista overpass.

DPS says the body appeared to have been struck several times by passing motorists.

The roadway was reopened just before 9:30 a.m.

DPS is asking anyone who was traveling on westbound US 60 at around 3 a.m. to check the undercarriages of their vehicles for damage that may be related to striking of the victim.
