Drivers may choose to avoid highways while heading to Cards game

Concerns about the recent string of freeway shootings may lead some fans to avoid highways while driving to the Arizona Cardinals game on Sunday.

Drivers are being advised by the city of Glendale that they can use routes on surface streets to head over to the University of Cardinals Stadium. People can use Northern Avenue to access the stadium, and drivers coming from the west side can use 99th Avenue for easy access to the facility.

One route that people are advised to avoid: Glendale Avenue. The popular thoroughfare may be congested on Sunday before and after the game.

People are advised to leave home early and arrive in time for kickoff scheduled for 1pm.

Arizona Department of Public Safety says 11 shootings have been confirmed over the past two weeks.

One person has been detained and questioned in connection with the shootings. A reward of $20,000 reward is offered for information leading to the capture of a suspect.
