Game and Fish officials talk about increased bear activity
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - The Valley has witnessed two bear sightings in the past two weeks. One happened in Northeast Mesa near Power and Thomas Roads, and the other happened in Anthem.
In the case of the bear sighting in Anthem, Arizona Game and Fish officials say they had to euthanize the bear. On Thursday, Game and Fish officials talked about the increased activity and the public safety threat.
Why are the bears coming? Officials say it's because they're thirsty.

What should you do if you come face to face with a bear? You should try to back away, and if the bear comes towards you, wave your arms to make a lot of noise. One thing you should never do is turn your back on the bear and run, as it will chase after you, and you will never get away.
To keep bears out of your neighborhood, officials say people should store garbage in a secure place where they can't get to, and if you do see a bear, call 911.
