Glendale Glitters: It may be summer, but the city is starting to look like a winter wonderland
GLENDALE, Ariz. - It may be the "dog days of summer," but it's not too early to be thinking about the holidays and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the West Valley.
Workers began installing the $1.5 million lights in the downtown area on Wednesday morning for Glendale Glitters, which is Arizona's largest free holiday light display.
The festival will be scaled back this year, but fortunately for fans, not as much as originally thought. Back in June, it was announced that much of the event would be toned down this winter due to budget concerns. The city decided to cancel three weekends of the festival to save about $140,000, including cancelling a traditional hot chocolate event.
After much outcry from the public and local merchants, one of those weekend events was brought back.
The lights will be turned on November 23rd.
