Globe Police: Middle school did not notify police of potential threat after learning about it

GLOBE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - An investigation is underway after a threat was made against a middle school in Globe. Officials say the High Desert Middle School administrators knew about the threat, but never called the police.

According to a statement, Globe Police began receiving information from a concerned parent Thursday morning that one of her children, who attends High Desert Middle Shool, was alerted to a potential threat. The threat was planned by students who attend the school, and included potential homemade bombs and handguns.

Authorities say during the course of the investigation, they learned that personnel at the middle school had previously been made aware of the threat on March 28, but did not notify the police.

Police say the students involved were suspended by school officials and appropriate steps will be taken to address any criminal actions, as more information is identified.

Statement from Globe Unified School District:

"Globe Unified School District has been working closely with Globe Police Department to minimize and eliminate any threat associated with the matter outlined below. GUSD will defer to GPD during the course of this active investigation; as such, GPD will be the point of contact regarding incident communication. GUSD is committed to the safety of all our students and staff and will take appropriate action in holding students and staff accountable."
