HCSO: Boy, 8, killed in crash was not wearing a seat belt

An 8-year-old boy is dead and his 5-year-old brother was seriously injured in a crash on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Harris County investigators, neither boy was wearing a seatbelt when their father's vehicle struck the back of a truck stopped at a red light and then rotated into a flatbed truck.

The sheriff's office says the father's vehicle failed to drive in a single lane while traveling well above the posted speed limit prior to the crash.

The 8-year-old boy died at the scene. The father and his son were taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says the father was not intoxicated as they previously stated. In a release the sheriff's office said, "Previous information at the scene of the crash erroneously stated that Carcamo was intoxicated; investigators now believe the signs and symptoms of impairment were related to medication given to him on scene by EMS personnel. Subsequent testing revealed Carcamo's blood alcohol content was well below the legal requirement."

The District Attorney's Office says the father has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the dad had just picked up kids up from school.

The crash is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff's Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
