I-10 back open after gunfire shuts down two lanes

Phoenix police say a man is in custody after allegedly firing at a vehicle while standing on a freeway median.

Lt. Paul Taylor says the incident happened around 2:20 a.m., Sunday near the interchange of I-10 and I-17. The occupants of a vehicle were traveling westbound on I-10 when they saw a man and a woman standing in the left median. Two lanes on I-10 were shut down while police investigated.

The victims say the man was holding a handgun and their windshield was shot out as they drove by.
Taylor says the victims were not injured and called 9-1-1.

Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers located the man walking in the median and he is being detained. The woman was not found.

Police are searching for her as a possible victim and witness. The lanes reopened at about 7:45 a.m., Sunday.
