Jaguar Land Rover issued a recall for more than 170,000 vehicles in the United States because of electrical problems, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

What we know:

The automaker recalled 170,169 of several models, including some Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports and some Jaguars, because an internal failure could lead to a loss of drive power.

What is the problem?

An internal failure in the boost control microchip could cause the DC-DC converter to fail and stop charging the vehicle’s 12-Volt system, according to the recall notice. Without charging, this can lead to drive power loss and exterior lighting going out.

What's next:

The NHTSA is aware of the problem, but no remedy has been developed at this time.

Letters will be mailed out to owners in June.
