MADE IN ARIZONA: Scottsdale business selling unique golf clubs around the world

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- The Valley is famous for its beautiful golf courses, which stays open year-round, thanks to the region's relatively mild winters

But it's not just golf courses that are fueling the state's golf industry.

"We're the first company, as far as I'm concerned, that has it all in a golf product," said Mike Nicolette.

Successful Arizona businessman and billionaire Bob Parsons knew what he was doing, when he created Parsons Xtreme Golf about four years ago.

"I think he may have had a company in mind, but really what he wanted to do was research and find the best equipment available," said Nicolette.

Nicolette, Parsons' friend and business partner, knew with so much competition in the golf gear market, it would be tough to stand out.

"When we first started, I did my best to talk Bob out of giving into the golf equipment industry," said Nicolette. "We have to be the best. We have to set ourselves apart. Otherwise there is no company. What do you have to sell? He said, 'I'd like to see a club that looks like a blade, but plays more forgiving than a cavity back.'"

Parsons Xtreme Golf started small, and started in Scottsdale. Now, PXG sells worldwide, employs nearly 200 people, and sits on a 75,000 square feet (~6,967.73 square meter) site. Everything is created at the site, with some input from local pro tour players.

"We can call them at any time and have them come in and test product, and maybe share some ideas," said Nicolette. "So it's a real benefit to have those guys here."

Nowadays, PXG calls its clubs the "World's sexiest and most forgiving golf irons that look like blades". Gear that are built in Arizona, and used around the world.

"It looks good, it feels good, and the performance is outstanding," said Nicolette. "It's really been fun to see how this company has grown."
