Man, woman accused of assaulting Phoenix police officers
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police say three officers were injured and one remains hospitalized after they were assaulted by a man and a woman in the parking lot of a convenience story.
According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to the parking lot near 33rd Avenue and Bell Road on Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing a man assaulting a woman.
When officers tried to take the man into custody, he resisted and fought with the officers. During this altercation, police say the woman kicked one of the officers in the head.
Police say the officer who was kicked was able to take the woman into custody.
The man continued to punch and kick officers, who used less-than-lethal force to take him into custody.
Police say the man was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and two officers were treated for injuries and released. A third officer remains hospitalized.
