MCSO: 8-year-old child hurt following zip line accident

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Officials with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said an eight-year-old child suffered injuries from a zip line Monday.

According to information obtained by FOX 10, the incident happened near Buckeye, on a county island near S. 212th Avenue. In a statement, MCSO Sergeant Calbert Gillett said the boy was taken to the hospital for his injuries. As of Tuesday morning, the child is in very critical but stable condition.

MCSO says they believe the child suffered a strangulation injury while attempting to ride the zip line

FOX 10's Jennifer Martinez spoke with a person who lives in the area. The person, who did not want to go on camera, said he saw children on the zip line often, but that it had just started a few months ago.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
