Moving truck crash destroys backyard wall in Gilbert, driver on the loose

A Gilbert neighborhood is rattled after a two-ton moving truck crashed into a cinder block wall before taking off.

The truck was seen on video traveling at high-speed in the moments leading up to the crash.

Gilbert Police are looking for the driver responsible for damaging this wall:

We spoke with the owner, David Becker, who said it's frustrating that the driver sped off.

"I came in to the house, came back out, and there was a hole in the wall," Becker said.

Within seconds his backyard wall was knocked down.

"I kind of ran out to the street, because I knew it had just happened, to see if I could see something or anything."

He'd later find out after watching a neighbor's surveillance video what happened on the night of Dec. 11, just before 5:00 p.m.

"It's like an old Penske, like a two-ton," he said. "It drove out of the neighborhood, drove in high, tailed it in and ran down the wall and hightailed it out."

Becker called police to report the truck driver and explain what happened.

"Unmarked cars, like in big trucks, you know, hightailing it through your neighborhood and, you know, something's going on. Something fishy," said Becker.

Gilbert police took down a report and immediately searched for the truck, but did not find it.

"Definitely did not belong in the neighborhood," he said. "They probably thought they were doing a shortcut or something and cruising really fast, you know, right through the neighborhood and, yeah, it's a little nerve-racking."

The surveillance video shows the truck driving off with cinder blocks still on it.

"You know, you can destroy property or just, you know, commit a crime or whatever and, you know, take off, you know, without, you know, accountability," he said.

Becker says he's thankful his family was not hurt.

"We have kids. No one was, like, right at the fence. Thank God no one was outside at the time," Becker said.

Police say they are still looking for the truck. In the meantime, David tells me he's focused on getting the wall repaired as soon as possible.
