New Year's baby: Baby boy born just after midnight at Phoenix hospital

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - Valley couple Gabriella and Martin rang in the new year with a sweet, seven-pound bundle of joy -- their baby boy, Aidan.

"Everything went better than I thought it was going to be! "Gabriella Soto said. "I was really nervous."

Gabriella's original due date was this Friday, but baby Aidan had other plans.

"I was getting ready to go to work and Gabriella told me she was not feeling well, so I said, 'well, I'm going to use this as an excuse not to go into work!" Martin Gaytn said.

What the pair thought would be a false alarm turned out to be a pleasant surprise!

The arrival of their newborn son came just 47 seconds after midnight.

"I was just hoping that he was healthy and the pain wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but everything went smoother than I thought it would be, just because we are young and a million things were racing through our heads," Gabriella said.

The young couple says they couldn't ask for a better way to start the new year, and now, they're looking forward to relaxing and enjoying their healthy, newborn son.

"Both are doing really well! It's always nice when you have a healthy mom, healthy baby... delivery went really well! said Kristiana Loewen, a nurse at Banner Health Estrella Medical Center. "Dad's a great support as well, so the three of them so far have been doing absolutely wonderful!"
