A bus transporting a middle school football team in Pennsylvania crashed Saturday morning.

The crash occurred in Economy Borough, about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh near the Ohio state border.

Pennsylvania school bus crash

What we know:

Pittsburgh's Action News witnessed damage to the front end of the bus, and saw multiple downed power lines and poles.

The 2025 Aliquippa Jr. High Football team posted on its social media page just before noon that the team had been involved in a bus accident.

The post said each player is being evaluated.

Economy Borough Police Chief Michael O’Brien said 21 people were sent to the hospital out of the 28 people on board. Twenty-five of the passengers were students, and they were on their way to a game in Gibsonia.

O’Brien said he understood the bus turned on its side during the crash but came back upright as the students were evacuating the vehicle.

What we don't know:

It’s unclear what caused the crash, or how seriously anyone was hurt.

What they're saying:

The police chief said the crash occurred in a tough spot in the road. "It’s on a bad bend," O’Brien said. "It’s being investigated now to determine what happened."
