Phoenix Fire: Father, 8-year-old girl dead following crash

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Phoenix Fire officials say two people, including an eight-year-old, have died following a crash.

The crash reportedly happened near 69th Avenue and Buckeye. According to Phoenix fire officials, a tractor trailer lost control and swerved into a Ford pickup truck that was carrying a family of four as well as another Chevrolet pickup truck.

Police say the father, Robert Manriquez Jr., 25, died along with the eight-year-old girl, Alexandria Mendez. A woman was ejected along with a three-year-old boy. Both were taken to the hospital and are in serious condition but are expected to survive.

Police say the 50-year-old man driving the semi truck and the 24-year-old man driving the other Chevy pickup truck were not injured.

Investigators say impairment is not suspected and the driver of the semi truck claimed a mechanical failure caused his truck to turn into oncoming traffic.

The collision is till under investigation.
