Phoenix police: Officer, suspect injured in shooting
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police say an officer and suspect are injured following an officer-involved shooting near Central and Willetta Avenues late Monday afternoon.
According to a statement, police say one officer suffered minor injuries, and the suspect is in custody, and being taken to the hospital.
As of 9:00 p.m. Monday, a section of Willetta, up to Central Avenue, is still blocked off, and Central Avenue is still blocked off, from McDowell to Roosevelt.
According to reports, there was a suspect, riding a bike, who rode past a person and ripped the necklace off of the person. That incident happened near a drug store on Central and McDowell. An on-duty officer happened to be in the area, and saw the robbery. The cops then went to work.
According to officials, the suspect eventually produced a handgun and pointed it at the officer, and the officer then drew his service weapon, and fired at the suspect, striking him.
The suspect, according to reports, ran from the scene, but was later caught. The officer involved in the incident did suffer a minor hand injury.
