Police pursue reported stolen vehicle in the South LA area
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Authorities were in pursuit of a reported stolen vehicle on Thursday that began in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department began to follow the red Kia Sorento around 1:30 p.m.
The suspect driver could be seen erratically changing lanes at high speeds on both city streets and freeways, and narrowly missed pedestrians at times.
Around 1:55 p.m., the suspect driver stopped in the northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway north of Manchester. The suspect waited until officers began to exit their vehicles, then the driver took off continuing northbound on the freeway toward the downtown area and the pursuit continued.
Eventually, the pursuit suspect exited the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles and began weaving through local streets.
The suspect blew through numerous intersections, without stopping for red lights or stop signs.
At one point, the suspect drove down city streets and began to high-five pedestrians on the side of the road.
LAPD officers attempted a pit maneuver in the middle of an intersection, however, despite being hit, the suspect vehicle was able to continue evading officers.
The pursuit came to an end near the intersection of W 54th Steet and S Broadway after officers successfully deployed a spike strip, flattening one of the tires of the suspect vehicle. At that point, officers used a pit maneuver, allowing officers to successfully apprehend the suspect.
No details about the suspect have been released at this time.
