Police Release New Photos Hoping to Identify 'Baby Harlan'

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Police Department is still trying to identify a baby who was found abandoned in southwest Atlanta. Investigators said the girl, who is just days old, was discovered on Harlan Road outside a home around 6:30 Monday evening. Atlanta police said detectives are calling her "Baby Harlan."

The family who lives at the house told police when they returned home she was on a chair on the front porch. They told investigators they didn't witness the baby being left and don't know who she could belong to. The baby was found with the umbilical cord attached and she was wrapped in a pink Hello Kitty blanket, according to police.

"I paused I stepped back like this I said, that's a real baby and I walked and I said hey grandma that's a real baby," said Chance Benton, who discovered the baby girl in a chair on the porch.

Another of the family members who found Baby Harlan said they left the home around 5:30 p.m. on Monday and returned approximately one hour later.

Baby Harlan has captured hearts across the country. People are reaching out to the Atlanta Police Department via social media expressing interest in adopting the newborn.

Baby Harlan was taken to Scottish Rite Hospital alert, conscious and breathing on Monday. Police are still searching for the child's mother who may or may not face charges.

"We're still investigating. We don't know why the baby was there so we don't have enough right now to said there's going to be any charges," said Lt. Murphy.

Police said their main focus right now is to find the baby's mother to make sure she has received proper medical treatment.

Chance Benton said he doesn't know why baby Harlan was left at his grandmother's home.

"I have no answers. I do not understand," said Benton.
