WINTER HAVEN (FOX 13) - A woman was injured following a deputy-involved shooting in Winter Haven, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, a deputy responded to a home on 16th Street NE after a report of a 25-year-old woman threatening to kill her ex-boyfriend. Investigators said Lindsay Erin Collins of Kissimmee was destroying things inside Christopher Ingram's home.
According to officials, Ingram fled from his home and called 911.
"She is on drugs or something. She is acting really crazy," Ingram can be heard saying in the 911 call. "She said she was going to bring a knife on the way over."
Right after a deputy arrived, Collins passed him, running towards Ingram with a butcher knife. The deputy fired one shot, hitting Collins in the torso. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable, but serious condition, according to officials.
She's facing several charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Detectives say Collins believed Ingram was seeing another woman, and had sent threatening texts to him before showing up at the house.
"If you believe her texts, she intended to commit murder last night, and possibly suicide," Sheriff Grady Judd stated. "At the end of the day, I hope Lindsay learns from this."
Sheriff Judd praised the quick actions by the deputy, a nine-year department veteran.
