Secret Service aware of potential threat against Barron Trump: Reports

Published August 27, 2026 10:20 AM MST

The U.S. Secret Service said it is aware of a video broadcast by Iranian state television that discussed an alleged plot to assassinate Barron Trump, the youngest son of U.S. President Donald Trump, a spokesperson for the agency said Tuesday, according to reports.

Secret Service investigates potential threat against Barron Trump

Big picture view:

The roughly three-minute broadcast discussed an alleged plan targeting Barron Trump, 20, and claimed that he was being monitored. The report also alleged that a $10 million bounty had been offered for his killing.

What they're saying:

"The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees," Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring said in an email obtained by Reuters. "Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence."

Video comes amid other recent warnings

The backstory:

The video comes amid sharply heightened tensions between the United States and Iran. The two countries have maintained hostile rhetoric during a nearly six-month-old war that began with U.S. and Israeli military action against Iran in February.

Reuters reported earlier this month, citing U.S. officials, that Israel had issued several warnings over the previous year that Iran intended to assassinate Trump.

Last month, Trump secretly left Turkey aboard an alternate military aircraft after attending a NATO summit in Ankara, in a security operation prompted by an Iranian assassination threat, according to The Washington Post.

The Post reported that Trump was secretly transferred from the Air Force One to a smaller C-32A military aircraft, while journalists and some White House staff members aboard Air Force One were unaware that the president had left the plane.

Trump has previously said he considers himself "number one on the kill list for Iran," according to Reuters.
