Semi fires shut down I-10 on Saturday

Eastbound I-10 was shut down about ten miles east of Quartzsite because of a fiery fatal accident involving three semis.

Arizona Department of Safety says a tractor-trailer failed to slow down for traffic that had backed up due to a separate deadly crash. The semi rear-ended another tractor-trailer that was hauling a double semi-trailer. Two other tractor-trailers were also rear-ended from the impact.

The semi involved in the initial crash burst into flames, and the driver died in the collision. It's not clear why the driver failed to slow down for the traffic backups, but investigators are looking into whether the driver may have been fatigued.

Eastbound I-10 was shut down at milepost 44 while investigators looked into the deadly crash.
