Semi truck rolls over on I-10 in Ahwatukee, spills 50 gallons of diesel fuel

A semi-truck rolled over on the Interstate 10 at Ray Road, which became a hazmat scene on Thursday night.

"Damage to the five passenger vehicles appears to have occurred as they all tried to avoid colliding with the semi truck. The semi involved is a duel trailer semi that rolled onto its side," stated officials. "At this time, PFD Hazardous Materials Teams are conducting research to determine if there is any threat present from the materials that the truck was transporting. There was approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled and absorbed by Haz Mat crews. There is no run off from the fuel into any storm drains."

In addition, two people suffered minor injuries -- the 62-year-old male driver of the truck and a female from the passenger vehicle. The truck driver was transported to a trauma center with non-life threatening injuries and the woman remains in stable condition, also with non-life threatening injuries.

There is no estimate for how long the hazard assessment and clean up will take.

By 5:15 a.m. on Friday, the eastbound exit at Ray Road was re-opened.
