Shotgun found in DeKalb County school's ceiling

A school in DeKalb County found something surprising hidden in one of its boy's restrooms: a shotgun.

The shotgun was found in the ceiling tiles of one of Lithonia Middle School's restrooms near the end of the school day on Tuesday.

It was described as "old" and "inoperable" by a spokesman for DeKalb County Schools in a statement.

"As with all matters of student/teacher safety, we take this incident very seriously and have acted accordingly," the spokesman said.

It is unknown how the shotgun got into the restroom, whether it was loaded, or how long it had been in the ceiling.

No students or staff were in danger at any time, the spokesman said.
