State legislators meet to discuss education funding, as teacher walkout continues

As teachers and education supporters protest outside the Arizona State Capitol on Monday, state lawmakers also met inside the Arizona State Capitol to talk about a solution, as a budget bill with a plan for education funding began to take shape.

#RedforED supporters packed the state house gallery, as members of the state house held a floor session. While #RedforED supporters have said there was no bill to go along with Gov. Doug Ducey's 20x2020 plan, budget bills with teacher pay raises and education funding were being drafted on Monday, and could soon be introduced in the House Rules committee.

House Democrats, however, remain unconvinced.

"This continues to be a shell game, because what's missing is additional revenue," said State Rep. Rebecca Rios of Phoenix. "The reality is, you cannot make up a billion deficit by using the same amount of income that we have."

The Governor and the legislature, however, are confident they do have the money for teacher raises and additional funding. Meanwhile, any budget bills would have to go through the House Appropriations Committee before it can be considered by the full house.
