Summer fun on Tempe Town Lake

TEMP, Ariz. (FOX 10) - The hot Summer months are right around the corner, and the city of Tempe is reminding everyone they have a great way to stay cool and have fun.

It's a great time to grab a kayak and hit the water.

"You know you got tandems where two people can paddle you got single kayaks where one person can paddle then you've got stand up paddling where you are actually standing on a board and cruising around," said Brian Allison with the city of Tempe.

Brian Allison says as the temperature increase so does the interest in all the activities Tempe Town Lake has to offer.

"Every year it increases there's more interest whether it's people renting a stand-up paddleboard or a kayak or any of the number of great boats they have to offer here or it's taking a class," said Allison.

New this year, swan paddle boats that seat four people, evening kayaking, and paddle yoga classes.

"We get a lot of good feedback, we get people that might have rented a boat at Tempe boat rentals and they said now I want a little more instruction," says Allison.

And when the fun is done, Emily Burkett, an assistant recreational coordinator with the boating department for the city, says there is a whole list of classes to take.

"We have kayaking accredited instructors, our rowing coaches are all nationally accredited so we have people that have so many years of experience why not come and learn from," said Emily Burket.

You can take one class or you can take classes for a month. It's all about how much time you want to spend at Tempe Town Lake.

There is a fun glow paddle event coming up on May 9.
