Suspect arrested for UT Dallas grad's murder

Dallas - Dallas police said a suspect accused of murdering a woman and critically wounding her roommate admitted to the crimes.

38-year-old Jeremy Todd Meeks is charged with capital murder. He is booked on a $505,000 bond for the attacks and a separate burglary.

Police said 24-year-old Lin Wang was walking her dog on the evening of Sept. 21 and was followed home to her apartment in the 7600 blk. of Churchill Way. According to an arrest affidavit, Meeks entered the apartment, stabbed Wang to death, and then stabbed Wang's roommate as she escaped her bedroom. Police said Meeks stole several items from the apartment, including Wang's cell phone.

Prior to the attack, the affidavit said Meeks walked into another nearby apartment through an unlocked door, but abruptly left when he saw the person living there. That resident later called 911 when he heard screaming and reported the intrusion.

Police said they traced Wang's cell phone to a nearby business burglary that occurred about three hours after the murder. According to the affidavit, Meeks was identified as the burglary suspect from security video.

Police said they arrested Meeks on the burglary warrant on Sept. 28 and, during questioning, police said he admitted to murdering Wang and stabbing her roommate, who has not been identified.

Wang had recently graduated from UT Dallas with a Master's degree in accounting. The university, in a statement, said "to hear of such a horrible tragedy is difficult for us."
