Suspect dead following Phoenix police officer-involved shooting

Police say a suspect is dead following an officer-involved shooting at a West Valley mobile home park.

The incident, according to Phoenix Police Sergeant Alan Pfohl, took place at the Western Acres Mobile Home Park, in the area of 65th Avenue and Van Buren.

As of 10:00 p.m. Thursday, police were still at the scene. It began at approximately 5:30 p.m., as police responded to a domestic incident between two brothers. According to the woman who made the call, her older son was active very aggressively and erratic.

When police arrived, one of the brothers had already left the scene, but 24-year-old Francisco Valdez turned violent, ran into the kitchen, and armed himself with a knife. He reportedly charged at the officers, with a knife in his hand and was shot by one of the officers, killing him.

Officials with Phoenix police said Valdez had a felony warrant for a potential parole violation, and reportedly told other witnesses that he was not going back to prison, and that he would fight them.

No officers were injured during the shooting.
